The City of Riverside has been selected as a finalist in the 2010 International Awards for Livable Communities (LivCom), an international competition for local communities that focuses on environmental management and the creation of sustainable cities. Launched in 1997, and endorsed by the United Nations Environment Program, the LivCom Awards are the world’s only awards competition that focuses on best practices regarding management of the local environment. As a finalist in the competition’s Whole City award, Riverside will be judged on several categories including: Enhancement of the Natural and Built Landscapes; Arts, Culture, and Heritage; Environmental Best Practices; Community Participation and Empowerment, Healthy Lifestyle; and Strategic Planning. “We are very proud to receive this selection,” said Riverside’s Sustainability Officer Mike Bacich. “We look forward to sharing Riverside’s award winning Action Plan and accomplishments with other communities from around the world.” City officials will represent Riverside during the finals presentations in Chicago, this November.
